How does drop-off & pick-up at Camp Tanner work?
Map of our Camp.
You will park to the left of the driveway, sort of beside the flag pole and to the right of the volleyball court. |
Arrival & Departure days have changed a lot this year. Following guidance for Covid-19 we have made some significant changed to how drop-off and pick-up will occur. Please take some time to read through the following procedure so you know what to expect when you arrive to Camp Tanner on the Sunday of your week.
TimesOur 6 weeks of camp run from Sunday to Friday nights. Due to the pandemic, in order to ensure a more smooth arrival and departure, many changes have been made to our arrival and departure process. To start with we are grouping arrival and departure into 2 time slots to help with the flow of traffic and have less people all there at the same time. Please see bellow to determine your arrival and departure grouping and times:
Last Name Starts with A-L -->Drop Off at 2:30pm -->Pick Up at 7:00pm Last Name Starts with M-Z -->Drop Off at 3:00pm -->Pick Up at 7:30pm Please remember that we are trying our best to be ready right on time, but sometimes unforeseen circumstances set us back. If you arrive and we have not yet started sign in or sign out, please be patient with us. Please wait in your car and we will be with you as soon as we can. Before You Leave HomeBefore You Leave Home: Before you leave home to bring your camper to camp, please complete the following self assessment tool. COVID-19 school screening (ontario.ca) Make sure you do this at home and not in the parking lot at camp. Our cell phone service is limited and the page may not load. Please ensure that the screen comes up green and says that you are allowed to come to camp. Should you get a screen that tells you not to come, please call us at 226-575-4688 to inform us that you cannot come.

Sunday Drop-Off & RegistrationStep 1: Once you arrive at camp, You will be greeted at the roadway. At this point someone will ask you if you would like to purchase Camp Tanner T-shirts & Sweaters. If yes, you will turn into the horseshoe shaped part of our driveway that is outside of the gate for step 2 of these instructions. If no, you will continue on step 3.
Step 2: Our merchandise station will be out at the front gate area. Please stay in your car and drive up to this station. At our merchandise station, we have Camp Tanner T-shirts, Sweaters and cookbooks available for purchase. Please bring cash if you would like to purchase merchandise as we don’t have a debit or credit option. Our Camp Tanner cookbooks contain some of our great recipes from camp and more! They are available for $16 or 2 for $30. Camp T-shirts are $15 for our older designs (may be limited to colours and sizes) or $20 for our new logo (these are all on Irish green shirts). Our sweaters are hoodies in Irish green with our new logo on the front. They cost $30 each. Once you have purchased your merchandise, you will loop back into the main line to enter the camp gate. Step 3: You will enter the camp gate area. You will be instructed to park in the grass area anywhere along the main trail. Once parked please stay in your car with your family. You should roll down your window and await one of our staff to come to you and greet you. Step 4: The first person to come greet you will likely be our medical staff. They will ask some covid screening questions first. Next, they will inquire about any medical information about your camper and ensure that all information you listed on the registration form is still accurate and current. They will inquire about the status of your child's health and if they have any medication that needs to be taken during the week. They will collect all medications at this time, so have them out and ready. Please note all medications must be turned in to the camp medical staff (even tylenol and herbal remedies). Step 5: Your camper will need a head check before they can enter camp. Someone from our team will arrive at your vehicle to do this. At this time we will ask the camper to step out of the car. The camper will then have their hair checked for head lice to ensure that it is not brought into camp. Once your child has been cleared for their head check, they will be asked to either sit back in the car or wait beside the car with their parents. At this time you can begin to unload and gather your campers belonging that they will be bringing with them to camp. Please stay at your own car though, and do not wander to other families' vehicles. Step 6: Now the Camp Director will come and greet you at your vehicle. The director will ask you to sign in your camper in our log book. They will also have you verify that the parent names and phone numbers are listed correctly, should we need to get a hold of you. Step 7: Finally, the Directors will let you know who your child's counsellor will be and what cabin they will be in. At this point, they will call over the camper’s counsellor to greet the camper. The counsellor will have a special name tag for the camper to wear while we get to know everyone. Once they have met their counsellor the camper will stay goodbye to their family at the car. Parents will not be allowed to go up to the cabin area this year in order to reduce contact and germs spread. The counsellor will help the camper bring their belongings over to their designated area. The campers will stay with their cabin mates in a designed area until their whole cabin arrives. Once their whole cabin is at camp and signed in they will move their belongings up to their cabin and get settled. Counsellors will help to assign bunks and make sure a fair way of decision making is used to decide which campers have top bunks. |
Friday Pick-Up & Sign OutOur weeks end on Friday nights. Camper pick up time is listed in the chart above (depending on your last name and which group you fall in). We aim to start sign-out on time but please bear with us if we are a few minutes behind. We have our camper banquette just before they go home. During this, campers enjoy one last meal with their friends and then we have the week's awards presentations and thank you's. Due to all the presentations to be made this can sometimes run long. It is very important to some campers that they get their prizes so we ask parents if they arrive early to please wait for this to be over before taking their child home. We also ask any parents who arrive early to please wait in their vehicles.
When you arrive for pick-up you should park along the driveway (similarly to how you did at sing-in). You will wait in your car for a staff member to approach you. Our Camp Director will come out to greet you. Please be patient with us, we will have lots of families at the same time. We will do our best to come to you in a timely manner. Our director will ask you your name and your camper you are picking up. They will have you sign out your camper. They may also chat with you a little if there were any concerns throughout the week. The camp medical staff will then come see you at your vehicle. They will return any medications that were collected and have you sign any accident reports from any minor injuries, or ailments that your camper was treated for during the week. Once this is done, your camper will be called over. They will bring all their gear to you. Please stay in the car. Staff will assist the camper if need be. Once the camper has loaded all their items in the car, and buckled in you will be on your way to home. If you should need to pick your child up earlier than 7 pm in order to make other obligations please inform us of this in advance. You can either let us know at drop off or call us (226-575-4688) during the week. Please note: for camper's safety and to help us stay organized, campers will remain with their counsellors until they are signed out. Please do not approach your child or call them to your vehicle. We will call them over once we have completed sign-out. This ensures that all children do in fact get signed out and all campers go with a safe and approved pick-up person. |
