CAMP BENEFITS PARENTS
There are many educational and social benefits of attending camp. Campers learn teamwork through games, community living, shared responsibilities and team-building through our low-ropes courses.
Camp Tanner has received letters and phone calls from parents and guardians who have noticed attitude changes, increased self-esteem, positivity, and in general, are happier. Camp provides a wonderful sense of belonging as campers are inducted into the wonderful world of camp and camp culture. Camp connects children with campers around the province, country, and even the world through shared campfire songs, games, and age-old traditions!
Kids will have a balance between healthy, high-energy activity, low-energy games, relaxation and social activities. Campers bond with other campers and staff while creating many memories. Campers become the next generation of staff; we want happy campers who become passionate about camp and want to come back as staff members.
Camp Tanner’s scenic location offers a wonderful place to worship together or in solitude. The kids get to have fun while learning about God and marveling at his creations!
Our commitment to Safety
Your child's safety is our first priority. Each year, staff participate in pre-camp training. This training covers topics such as inclusion counseling, respect, fire safety, confidentiality, ethics, moral behaviour, and anti-bullying.
Our staff is committed to safety and for that reason each staff member is certified in First Aid and CPR and has a routine police check on file. We hire on-site medical staff and hire NLS certified lifeguards. Our staff ratio is typically 1 staff member per 3 campers.
Please send a hat, sunscreen, and bugspray with your campers.
A healthy mix of fun and relaxation creates a well-balanced schedule. Campers should be dressed and ready and have their cabins cleaned for 8:00 AM each morning. Senior bedtime is at 10 PM, Intermediate campers turn in at 9:30 PM, and Junior campers are tucked in at 9:00 PM.
There are two cabin times (after lunch and before supper) in which campers are able to rest and participate in low-energy activities. There are four swims available each day and campers can participate in interest sessions if they wish not to swim. Interest sessions range from hairbraiding to sports to temporary tattoos.
Campers are encouraged to connect with God during their time at camp. We have morning and evening devotions as well as a morning session on Christian Education.
Each week has unique theme which is used to inspire our weekly schedule. Weekly schedules are kept a secret due to our staff's desire to surprise campers! However, we can tell you that there will be lots of costume dress-ups and themed meals!

TIPS FOR PARENTS &
Use these tips from staff to help make a memorable week!
Traveling from home is tough at any age.
Help your campers by sending them mail. You should drop
your letters or packages in the mail by Sunday or Monday
so that they make it to camp in time.
IF YOUR CAMPER NEEDS TO LEAVE CAMP
It is strongly recommended that all campers remain at the camp for the full week. If the need arises, a camper will be allowed to leave the camp one time only, the exception being family or medical emergencies. If a camper must leave, we ask the parents or guardians to please put in writing the times of the pickup and delivery back to camp and give it to the program directors upon arrival at camp.
Save on postage by discreetly delivering mail to the
directors during registration. If you live close enough to camp, you can drop letters and packages at our mailbox. We deliver mail to the campers at lunch every day.
SENDING CANDY OR TREATS
If you send your camper with candy or treats,
please make sure that you send enough for your
camper to share with his or her cabinmates.
MEDICINE & MEDICATION
Our First Aid Staff helps distribute medicine and medication. Please keep any medications including Tylenol, Vitamins, Advil, etc. in their original container and place in a plastic bag with instructions and bring them to registration. All medicines and medication will be returned upon pick-up.
We have "toothy time" at camp in the mornings and
evenings. Please put your campers toothbrush in a plastic ziplock bag labelled with his or her name! Too many toothbrushes are lost each year, save a toothbrush by labeling it!
LOST & FOUND
Camp staff keep a Lost & Found of all items. You can call the
camp if something has been lost. To help avoid lost or misplaced items, please label all of your camper's belongings.
Camp Tanner is dedicated to the health and wellness of all of its staff and campers. We have a medical staff on-site at all times, who is responsible for the administration of all camper and staff medications. These medications are also stored in a safe location to ensure their security and prevent loss.
It is encouraged that Epipens and inhalers are carried by the camper at all times. We try and provide a method for the camper to carry them (like a fanny pack) however, if the camper has another method for carrying their Epipen/inhaler with them at all times, they are encouraged to bring it.
All staff carry a fanny pack on their person that acts as a mobile first aid kit. There is also a full first aid kit in each of the primary locations on camp grounds (cabins, mess hall, craft cabin, pool).
Please note that Camp Tanner is not a nut-free environment. We try to be as accommodating as possible to all health conditions. If you are concerned about particular health conditions your camper may have, please feel free to contact us.
Unfortunately, with the increase of social media, bullying has become an increasing problem within schools and other institutions. Many campers who attend camp are doing so to escape bullying at their schools. Camp Tanner has a no-bullying policy. Each Monday morning, all campers participate in an anti-bullying session led in partnership with the Oxford County OPP. There is also a no-electronic rule in effect.
Your camper is asked to sign a Camper Contract on our registration form, which is a pledge to treat others with respect and to behave appropriately at camp. Camp Tanner wishes to partner with staff, parents, guardians, and campers to create a safe environment which promotes fun, high self-esteem, and positivity.
