All staff must have a current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificate. Due to a lack of interest, Camp Tanner will NOT be arranging a certification or re-certification course. Candidates should make their own arrangements to take the course as soon as possible. We recommend St. John Ambulance, Red Cross and the Lifesaving Society as reputable providers of this course: their websites are linked below.

WE ARE HIRING FOR SUMMER 2021

Camp Tanner is an overnight camp which runs six weeks of summer camps and a weekend camp on the May Long Weekend each year for campers who are 7-15 years of age. The camp is accredited by The United Church of Canada and The Ontario Camping Association.
 
Staff and volunteer candidates should expect to work with youth in a positive, team environment and live on the premises from Sunday to Friday of each week which they work (Friday to Monday for the May Long Weekend Camp).

Preference will be given to applicants who meet the following requirements:
  • Positive teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to work with/without supervision
  • Previous leadership and/or camping experience
  • Education and/or history working with children and youth
  • Interest in youth program development and facilitation
  • Additional certifications such as safeTALK, Wilderness First Aid etc.
  • Commitment to working all six weeks of the summer program
 
When hired, all applicants will:
  • Obtain a current vulnerable sector police check (if 18 or older)
  • Obtain a Standard First Aid with CPR – C certification
  • Submit or acquire all other required certificates
  • Be committed to attend ALL pre-camp training sessions and meetings

COVID-19 Staff Information Letter

Positions Available

(Please see full position descriptions as attached on the left)
 
Camp Director
  • Camp Director will oversee all aspects of programming, including the organization of special programs and purchase or creation of new supplies or programs
  • Camp Director will create camper lists, resolve camper behaviour and challenges
 
Assistant Director
  • Assistant Director will provide leadership in planning and programming and assist Camp Director in administrative tasks 
 
Craft/Sports Leader
  • Craft/Sports Leader will deliver craft programs specialized sports programming, keep craft cabin and games equipment trailer clean and support other staff as needed
 
Head Lifeguard
  • Assistant Lifeguard will assist in all pool operations
  • Current NLS certification required, maintenance experience is an asset
  • Must be 18 years of age (born 2003)
 
Counsellor
  • Counsellor will supervise a cabin group of 4-8 campers, planning activities and preparing supplies for those campers
  • Completion of the CIT program an asset
  • Must be 17 years of age  (born 2004)
 
First Aid Staff
  • First Aid Staff will dispense medications and be the preferred first aid provider at camp
  • Partial or completed nursing or paramedic training preferred
  • This person will collaborate with Camp Director to determine measures taken if a camper or staff has any symptoms of COVID-19 develop while at camp
 
Camp Cleaner
  • Camp Cleaner will complete general cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, cleaning of bathrooms, removal of garbage, laundry, washing dishes etc.
  • Camp Cleaner will regularly clean and disinfect high touch surfaces around the grounds 
  • This year we will be hiring 1 cleaner to live on site, and 1 day shift cleaner 
  • Preference given to those with Food Safety Handlers Course
 
Kitchen Support (2 part time roles)
  • Kitchen support will be the kitchen leader, organizing and supporting volunteers as they prepare, serve and clean up from meals
  • Persons in this role will not be required to live on site
  • Food Safety Handlers Course Required
  • 1 person from early morning to after lunch, Monday to Friday
  • 1 person from mid afternoon to evening snack, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays

Chaplain
  • Chaplain will lead daily Christian Education Sessions and be a spiritual leader as available for staff and campers
  • This position is not a live-in position and a different candidate will staff each week, working mornings from Monday – Friday

Counsellor in Training (CIT) 
  • This position is a volunteer position for those born in 2005 who are interested in gaining leadership skills while working alongside a counsellor to plan, create and implement camp programs
  • CITs will be given volunteer hours, as well as this program being an asset for applying to paid positions in the future
